Day 1 - 2 LIVINGSTONE  [camping Bx1--]
[B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner]
The group will meet in Livingstone, in Zambia, at 14:00. We have 2 days to explore Victoria Falls, a natural wonder of the world, plunging into the Zambezi Gorge. Adventure activities abound, white water rafting on the mighty Zambezi, or a 111m bungi jump (own expense).

Day 3 – 4 CAPRIVI  [camping BLD]
Heading out of Livingstone we cross at Sesheke into the Caprivi, a narrow strip of Namibian land that extends between Angola, Zambia and Botswana. An abundance of large rivers attracts a variety of animals and birds and we have 2 days to explore this remote and beautiful region, including a boat cruise on the Kwando River.

Day 5 RUNDU  [camping BLD]
After a morning enjoying the abundant birdlife that surrounds the camp, our road takes us directly west along the Kavango River. Villages of grass huts and local wooden crafts and carvings are a common sight. We stop for the night at our riverside camp in Rundu with a spectacular sunset.

Day 6 - 7 ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK  [camping BLD]
Etosha National Park, “the great white place of dry water”, in the game rich north west corner of Namibia offers a variety of wildlife. We take game drives around the huge dry pan to find the elephants, herds of antelope and lions around the waterholes before we camp at Namutoni, Halali or Okaukuejo with their flood-lit waterholes.

Day 8 UGAB WILDERNESS  [camping BLD]
Our next stop is the Brandberg where we camp next to the dry Ugab River bed, home to the rare desert elephants. We explore the mountains on foot with our local guides, who lead us through this region adorned with rock art including the “White Lady”.

Day 9 SPITZKOP  [camping BLD]
Our journey covers some beautiful desert landscapes as we move south towards the huge granite domes that rise out of the desert at Spitzkoppe. We set up camp at the foot of these massive domes, and take a walk to explore the area. The silence and wide open spaces add to the mystery and we enjoy a magnificent sunset.

Day 10 – 11 SWAKOPMUND  [guest house Bx2 Lx1 -]
We cross flat open plains to the coastline where we visit the Cape Cross seal colony. Further south is the coastal town of Swakopmund. Day free to explore the town or try quad biking / dune boarding (own expense). We enjoy evening restaurant meals (own expense).

Day 12 – 13 NAMIB DESERT  [camping BLD]
The Lunar landscapes surround the town of Swakopmund and we visit these as we leave and head into the Namib Desert with it’s towering red sand dunes. We will walk to Sossusvlei, explore Sesriem Canyon and watch dramatic sunsets over the world’s highest sand dunes.

Day 14 WINDHOEK  [guest house BL-]
The charm of the city of Windhoek lies in its harmonious blend of African and European cultures and the friendliness of its people. We arrive late in the day and enjoy a restaurant meal (own expense).

Victoria Falls to Windhoek (NB15) tour ends at 08:00 on day 15. Please contact the Sunway office for more details.

Day 19 MAKGADIKGADI PANS  [camping BL -]
Feel the vastness of Africa under a big sky sunset. Depending on the season, the pans can either be a shimmering haze of dust or a vast shallow lake.

This tour departs at 14h00 from the campsite in Livingstone, Zambia. Most flights into LVI (and VFA) arrive midday. We recommend that you fly into Livingstone airport (LVI) in Zambia on the day the tour starts. Flying into Victoria Falls airport (VFA) in Zimbabwe will require an additional visa (the Uni-visa applies for most nationals from the EU).

The tour ends in Livingstone, Zambia at approximately 12h00 (noon) and we do a free of charge drop off at the Livingstone airport (LVI) so that you can arrange flights for the same day. Alternatively, you could fly out of Kasane Airport (BBK), Botswana. We can arrange a airport transfer at normal airport transfer rate.
(If you are flying out of Victoria Falls VFA, Zimbabwe, we can arrange an airport transfer directly from Kasane to VFA, Zimbabwe - which would save you crossing into Zambia and then into Zimbabwe just to get to the VFA airport. This would be at the normal airport transfer rate.)

If you would like to book any pre-tour or post-tour accommodation, please indicate your required airport transfers and the number of nights required when you submit your enquiry below.

Limited Participation: An essential part of your safari is participation. From putting up your tent to packing the truck in the morning – it’s all part of your adventure. Responsible Tourism

In the Ugab wilderness region we camp at the White Lady Lodge campsite. A partnership was signed in 2003 and the community benefit through employment and a percentage of the income of the lodge. Our walks to view the busman rock art are lead by a local community guide. Along with the guide, the community has also set up a small museum that provides more information of the area.

The local community directly benefits from your visit through the employment of the local guide and the entrance fees. Without the local communities involvement these amazing rock art sites would not be preserved.

AGE POLICY

We accept children 12-18 with accompanying adults on scheduled tours (for private groups we can accept younger children). If the clients are older than 65 years, then we require a medical certificate too (stating client is fit and healthy to embark on a multi-day tour covering long distances etc)

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT NAMIBIA

The Namib desert landscapes form a magnificent backdrop for a spectacular safari. Lying on the Tropic of Capricorn, and flanked by the cold Atlantic Ocean, Namibia has a desert climate for the most part and there can be large differences in day and night temperatures, low rainfall and overall low humidity.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT BOTSWANA

In combination with Namibia, the Desert & Delta safari visits neighbouring Botswana. This particularly flat country is land locked in central Southern Africa and shares a similar climate with Namibia, although slightly more rain and is technically semi-arid desert climate. In combination the follow applies:

Dry season is from May to October: Wildlife gathers around remaining water resources, against starkly beautiful landscapes.  There is little to no rainfall during the entire winter and humidity is low.

May:- is Autumn and the infrequent rains have stopped, but the vegetation is still lovely and can be green. The nights aren't cold yet and day temperatures on average are around 24-28°C/75-82°F.

June:– The nights are colder and can drop below 10°C/50°F. In desert areas, it can be freezing. Days are still pleasant around 20-24°C/68-75°F with clear blue skies.

July & August:– Winter morning game drives can be cold at an average minimum of 7°C/45°F, so dress in layers with a windproof jacket and beanie. The average daily temperature reaches 21-25°C/70-77°F but can fall to below freezing at night in the deserts and higher altitude areas.

September & October:– Spring is lovely. It isn't too hot, but the mornings are less chilly. The skies are clear and during October the green vegetation is fading as the heat builds up. October can be extremely hot.

Green season is from November to April: Photography is amazing at this time, with wonderful light,  dramatic lightning, and thunders storm cloud formations. Wildlife revels in the bounty of summer and life is good.

November:– By now it is hot, but with the humidity still low, it is pleasant. On average, the days are above 30°C/86°F, but it can be a lot higher in the desert.

December:– The first rains arrive and the temperature drops. The landscape changes after the first rains and everything comes to life. For the lucky you might experience the rare phenomenon of rain in the Namib Desert.

January & February:– Tends to be hot and humid with temperatures around 30-35°C/86-95°F and over 40°C/104°F in the desert. There may be downpours in the afternoon but not every day. Mornings are usually clear.

March & April:– Rainfall stops around April. It cools down and the nights start to get cold. Average day temperatures are around 25-30°C/77-86°F.

Helen- Jul23

Life changing experience. I started at Victoria Falls and travelled through Botswana and Namibia, camping for most of 21 nights. I was a bit apprehensive as my trip had been delayed 3 years, but Bruce and Grace's communication was helpful, friendly and positive and made me feel happy.
The trip itself was magnificent, it surpassed any expectations I had. My guides, Patrick and Moses were knowledgeable, humorous, hard working and catered meals to a high standard. I was well briefed each day about the itinerary, what to expect and lists of highlights. Geography, political and social information as well as superb information about the wildlife was constant and I gained such insights. I was comfortable in my tent and in the van - P and M always made sure to check I was okay.
I really felt like I saw what was special, the itinerary was well set. I left Livingstone and Africa feeling like I left home, with a love that grew because my experience was so enriching. I can't thank Sunways, Patrick and Moses enough for the experience of a lifetime. My tour was NB21 and I would do it all again - though I have been told of the Malawi Mozambique tour and am saving my pennies.

Emma and Peter- Jul23

We really enjoyed our trip. It would be too hard to highlight any one part of the journey- we did so much! But yes we got to hear lions, elephants, and hippos from our tents at night, do safari drives, climb dunes, see some amazing sunsets and sunrises, and most importantly experience different cultures.

Lisa - Jun23

I have been on many trips all over the world and I feel that this trip is probably the most memorable. Everything on our NB21 camping safari was amazing. So many incredible experiences, it is hard to pick one. Also all of the people on the trip were so wonderful especially our guides Ali and Sipho.

McMeechan - 23Aug19

This is a fantastic trip due to the variety of experiences that are included. Some very long days, but all very worthwhile. The "optional" activities such as Zambezi river canoeing, quad biking on the Namib sand dunes and Okavango delta flight were also very worthwhile. The rich diversity of wildlife was amazing: we observed more than 100 species of bird, 30 species of mammal and many reptiles and amphibians- only Leopard was too elusive for all the 'big five', but 4/5 isn't bad! Highly recommended trip. Really good leaders: knowledgeable, patient, hard-working and enthusiastic for the wildlife/environment of these fantastic countries..

Lauren - 14Apr19

We both had a great trip. We got to see a range of wildlife and it was amazing how close we got to some of the animals (but not dangerously close). We also got to see a variety of landscapes ranging from the dry desert to a bit more greenery in Botswana. A few highlights: 1) the watering holes right next to the campgrounds in Etosha National Park - one evening one was particularly active with animals and again, you’re so close to the animals. 2) the nauklauft National Park climbing the dunes for sunrise and seeing Dead vlei 3) the local people we got to spend some time with from the polers in the Okavango Delta and doing a local bushman walk. Sunway Safaris was great. It seems we got lucky with selecting one of the better companies, even our guides said that if they were to look for another guiding job they would be well respected in the industry given that they had worked at Sunway. When I was researching tours, having a company that could cater for Brendan’s dietary requirements (vegetarian and with strictly no cross contamination with cooking utensils etc) some companies came back to me saying that it would just be too hard to cater for him. Even when you told me that this company could cater for this, we were both still really nervous that dishes may get contaminated with meat (so he took lots of museli bars in case) and that they food for him would just be plain and boring. We were both really impressed with how our guides, particularly Farai the main cook, made sure he had great vegetarian food to eat. - Lauren Smith, New Zealand

Claire Smart - 21Dec18

I travel a lot but this is the most memorable, amazing, life changing experience I have ever had. I honestly cannot find a single fault with the way Sunways managed this incredible trip. The locations and experiences were just awesome, the guides were truly wonderful, the people we met were just lovely, the food was delicious. The thrill and excitement of hearing hippos honking in the creek all night outside your tent, falling asleep in marvelous desert landscapes below a million stars, watching the sun rise over the highest sand dunes in the world, cruising, driving and even walking past families of elephants, crocs, zebra, giraffe etc, whilst eagles circle overhead... I really don't have words to describe how it felt. A five star rating isn't nearly enough for this holiday/adventure. Thank you so much Sunways - Brian and Carina - you are simply amazing

Laura Cesaretti - 26Sep17

Absolutely reccomended. The camping tour covered Zambia, Botswana and Namibia in three weeks, from August 26 2017 to September 16th, with a small group of 12. It was a unique, wonderful experience, really unforgettable. It is not a restful vacation, nor it is a trip for lazy people who need to be pampered from morning till night. But it will give you tons of lifetime memories, you will discover places and meet people and make experiences that no other kind of trip can offer. - Laura Cesaretti, Italy

Emily Woolford - 08SEp17

Good day, I just wanted to mail you and let you know that the holiday with Sunway Safaris was amazing. It was great being a smaller group (most others we saw were 20+ people), the guides were great and always made delicious food and everything was very comfy and easy. It was good doing the camping option too as we often stayed right in the middle of everything that was happening whereas sometimes the accommodated version had to travel further to stay outside of the park or area we were in. - Emily Woolford, New Zealand

Neno Loje - 27Jan17

The two-week safari from Livingstone to Namibia was awesome. After the first week, all our expectations had been met already. We had seen the "Big 5" and were accompanied by the possibly best two guides we could have wished for. They [Shadreck and Iton] were very knowledgeable, funny, caring, supportive, warm-hearted, inspiring and cared about every possible detail to make our trip enjoyable. We can highly recommend Sunway Safaris. - Neno Loje - Germany

William Probst - 23Nov16

We thoroughly enjoyed our 21 day Camping Safari tour. It was testing at times but we coped well, especially as I am 77 and my wife 74. I will certainly be speaking favorably about the trip to my friends although I doubt if any around my age group would be interested. I will probably be informing them about the very similar "accommodated" tour. We have done a lot of world travel, rarely camping, but this tour is among the best as far as we are concerned. It was an experience not just a sightseeing holiday: Our guides Phumi and Tawanda represented Sunway very well indeed and Phumi was outstanding. There were many highlights, one being the 2 night bush camp in the Okavango Delta. At the time some in the group seemed to think that it was "a bit too basic" but my wife and I, and probably the others too, believe it to be a wonderful experience that we cherish! - William Probst - UK

Anne Leinweber - 23Nov15

Only positive things: well organised and thought through, great amount of information and discussions I learned so much about nature and culture. I felt safe the whole time, you choose companies of high quality to work with (village visit, boat cruise, polers in the delta). Amazing People!!!! - Anne Leinweber - Germany

Inge Lengewenus- 12Nov15

it was a beautiful trip with awesome places I’ll never forget thank you for all.

Diane Harrer - 01Nov15

Tolle guides, tolle organisation, viel gelernt

Annika & Jürgen Rieber - 19Oct15

Hi,we’ve returned from our Desert and Delta safari and I want to thank Sunway for this most wonderful experience. Everything was perfect – the itinerary was great, I saw so many things – a lot of them weren’t even expected. The nature, the different camps (each one even more beautiful than the last…), the possibilities we had … What I liked most was the variety of experiences we had throughout the 3 weeks. The different landscapes, the animals, the nature / wilderness, the encounters with people, activities, …. (but to talk about all the amazing and exciting things we saw and experienced would definitely go beyond the scope!) I wasn’t too keen on cities but even they offered rewarding experiences. E.g. At first I didn’t like Swakopmund very much – it was too much German colony (not only the style but also the people) but we made the township tour and had contact to the people living there which was great – so the impression didn’t stay single-sided. We learned a lot about the different cultures, about the history, the nature, how to live in different environments – we saw much more than I could have wished for, we experienced wonderful people and we met not only a detailed and elaborated itinerary – we also met Africa along the way. That leads me to our guides – I really feel the need to praise them! Jeff and Edwin were wonderful – the best guides we could have wished for. They explained everything to us – they answered all our questions (and sometimes even looked up more details), they were always friendly, funny, helpful, caring, patient. We met other groups and other guides and noticed that their way to deal with difficulties often was much less friendly and effective. Our guides ignored other groups when they started trouble like who is allowed to use a certain spot in the camp and anyway had the best result for our group. They cooked the best meals – in the middle of nowhere – like in the most beautiful places in nature - we had delicious meals you could not have better in any restaurant. (so I did not only learn a lot about nature and Africa but also improved my cooking skills…) Jeff and Edwin were the perfect team. For us they were not only most qualified guides, they were friends that showed us a new world. It was not only a holiday – it was (as Jeff always said) an adventure – it was a dream come true, an unforgettable experience. I’m sure we will come back! - Annika & Jürgen Rieber - Germany

Inge Lengwenus - 18Oct15

It was a beautiful trip with awesome places that I'll never forget. Thank you for all!

John Greenwood - 04Oct15

Great variety of places to visit. Superb guides - thank you Greg and Adolf.

Angelika Rieber - 09Aug15

Best guides, best tour, most wonderful experience.

Liz Humphreys - 20Jul15

It was an excellent introduction to the two amazing countries. It gave a good idea of what to comback to and do more slowly and in more depth.

Reto Durrer - 02Nov14

Thank you very much for taking good care of the whole group! I really enjoyed these last 21 days in Africa. I really enjoyed this 21 days in Africa. It was a new and exciting experience for me and i am sure I’ll never forget about it. Right now we’re already travelling back home to Holland. I will have a lot of stories to tell back home to friends and family, and i will do that with great joy and some nice memories in my heart. Thank you very much once again and we’ll have a drink to this really really wonderful and super fantastic holiday.

Dear Sunway Safaris,

I participated at the group tour of "Desert & Delta" from 8th of July to the 28th of July 2012. It was a brilliant and extraordinary trip. I am sure that the country itself had a big part in that wonderful experience. What I want to mention is, that the tour guide Jefias (Jeff) Munkuli did an unbelievably good job!!!! He cared for every single detail, had a huge talent in organizing things, followed all our wishes of a photo stop, however, never forget about the itinerary, helped out building up the tents (if we had some problems) even if he had other important things to do. So he cloned himself almost!

What he could cook over the fire was amazing. We loved it all! Sometimes we even had four courses – and that in a camp! His knowledge about history, animals and plants was very helpful in understanding the country and its people. He pointed out plants, which we wouldn’t have noticed without his hints. He knew the best stops, times to look out for animals. Perfect timing!

The driver team (with Jacob) did an incredible job – more then 4000km – and I felt ALWAYS safe and carefully driven as a big portion of eggs ;-) I liked as well, that he tried to include people from the country on our trip (village tours, singing, dancing…). That gave them the possibility to participate in the tour and for us it was an even more intense experience. Full of energy and always a smile on his face – you could tell –that he loves to be outside in the nature and together with people. Even after the 1010th question from us customers he was patient and had a smile for us. I can’t imagine of a guide who could fulfill his job any better.

I hope you are running a gratitude system and he will get a big extra portion!! Even if I don’t know the other guides, I am sure he is the best!

With best regards,
Iris-Alice Klinke from

Hi all,

I just want to say thanks to Sunway Safaris for organizing a great tour (Namibia Botswana Desert and Delta). Special thanks to our tourguides Jefias Munkuli and Chris Pindani.

They really did an amazing job, and in my opinion these two guys form a perfect team together. Although both different types - but complementary to each other, never arguing, always happy with one another. Both very good cooks and drivers, always helpful and in a good mood, even after 3 flat tyres!

Thanks again, and hopefully: tot ziens!

Warm regards,

Good morning!!

I just write to let you know that I've got the feed back from my client, Jaume Blasco, travelling on your departure 110821NB21. He says that everything regarding this trip was perfect: the itinerary, the organitzation & planification, the people (sunway team and travellers),...

So, once again thank you :-)

I attach a nice picture from him.

Regards from Barcelona!

Hi Bruce,

First of all, I just wanted to let you know that we had the most WONDERFUL time on our trip to Africa!! It was absolutely amazing and I would go back in a heartbeat. Except for the jetlag on the way back. Don't want to do that again anytime soon.

I have a question for you that I hope you can help with... while we were in the Okavonga Delta doing the "wild camping" bit, I took some photos of the mokoro polers and guides which I promised to send to them. One of the guys (named Patrick) gave me a P.O. Box address on a slip of paper and I have lost it!! I'll feel terrible if I am unable to get the photos to them. The lead guide's name was Kaiser. In fact, I'll attach a photo of all of them if that helps. They were paid by Sunway when we returned, and I believe all live in the the nearby village. If it's easier, I could send the photos to Sunway and perhaps they can be delivered on an upcoming trip.

Thanks again for a great adventure!

Take care,
Jan

Hello everyone,

We wish all of you at Sunways a good and peaceful new year 2011. During the free time between Christmas and New Year we had time to finish the sorting of our photographs and to remember the great time we had in Africa last year.

In september we did the Namibia Botswana Desert and Delta Tour with Albert and Wayne and we want once again say thank you very much to these two guys who made the trip unforgettable.

It was our first time to go to Africa and we were totally impressed of all the different countrysides, the wildlife, the wilderness (which we Europeans don't know any more) and the people there. Albert and Wayne were the best guides we could imagine for our adventure, they did a perfect job to show us Southern Africa from its best side.

They knew quite everything about history, politics, geography, the wildlife and about the behavior in the wilderness... and not to forget, they are excellent cookers - we will never forget the delicious "Drunken Chicken" in Etosha or the Desert Lasagne! Even when we had 6 punctures in one day, they managed the situation bravery! We wish all the best to them and hope that they will go on showing people Africa as they did to us - as friends! We are sure that we will come back to Africa!

Kind regards
Stefan Frank
