Potato Salad Midnight Snack

www.jejane.co.zaAfter going through some very interesting blogs, I stumbled across this old but amusing one and thought you may enjoy it as much as I did. Here Wouter tells us a little more on the adventures that can happen whilst most are happily asleep.

On day 10 of our Cape Town to Victoria Falls tour, we found ourselves in one of the most beautiful and wild National Parks: Etosha!

After a very fruitful day of game viewing, including a leopard that was drinking at the waterhole at Halali at sunset, everybody was relaxing and discussing how good life is during our dinner time.

After dinner, our German tour leader, Robbie, told me he will make the most delicious ever, real German style potato salad for the next day’s lunch. He set out to do this, and after about two hours of hard labor, he was content with his potato salad and went to bed.

At 3am he woke me up with “The jackals are eating my Potato Salad!” Still being half asleep, I thought he was having a bad dream, but he insisted that he heard a loud crashing sound and that we should go have a look. I unzipped the tent and shined my light on his Potato Salad; it was still safe and sound on the table. But we got up and as we walked around the braai area, we saw the trash can had been knocked over and a black and white bum sticking out, it was a honey badger! And the first thing Robbie said: “The honey badger is going for my Potato Salad!” But the honey badger never did.

The lesson to be learned: If you put hard work into making the Potato Salad, don’t leave it out for the honey badgers of the world.
