BRIAN ZUNZA

Brian tells us a little more about himself and why he decided to join Sunway Safaris. "My name is Brian Zunza,and I am 27 years old. I have been guiding for 4 years now and I became a guide because my main passion in life is wildlife and being in the bush. My other hobbies are playing soccer, photography, swimming and watching movies. Being able to be in the bush when I am on safari, has allowed me to work on my photographic skills and constantly improve them and I am always on the look for fantastic photo opportunities... I have been guiding for Sunway Safaris for the past year and love my work. I enjoy giving people from all over the world, the greatest African adventure of their lives and it a true honour to share my passion and experiences with them. My greatest wish is that they will love it as much as I do and I always hope to see them on another of my trips."

Bryan did an amazing job on our tour! At no time on our tour did I feel uncomfortable or not safe! It was one of the greatest adventures I have had and bryan played a huge roll in making the trip so special! I also want to mention that when that terrible accident with Jomy (not sure how to spell him) happened we were all ready to spend the day at the camp and just wait until everything gets sorted out and hope that he is OK... But Bryan and the Sunway team did such a great job in reorganizing that the tour could go on and we only lost 2 hours! I hope Jomy is doing OK and recovering quickly! BOTSWANA WILD SIDE BT14: “Dear Sunway Safaris, I am hoping you can share this email with Shaun, Brian and Ngande. We met Shaun in Maun at Audi Camp on May 10th as we were packing up to head out to Moremi. I wanted to say thank you for the most amazing and incredible trip to Africa. I didn’t think it was possible to squeeze for much fun and adventure into our 14 day Botswana wildside safari. This was a safari far beyond my expectations and I honestly don’t know how a safari could be better than this.

Myself, my daughter and one other person (a US airforce pilot) were on this tour May 5-18, 2019. Brian was main guide with help from Cloud, Ngande and our local Okavango Delta crew from Dtepi (not sure of the spelling) (Aleks, Keodirelse, Lottsing, Letty). What a great business model to use local guides, with lots of local expertise and be able to provide some local employment (that matters to me). They were excellent. Our days in the Delta were memorable and the walking safari experience is completely different than a driving safari. I wouldn’t have missed this for anything. We do a fair amount of canoe tripping here in Canada so loading our gear in boats and poling or paddling in somewhere to camp was pretty familiar (and fun) for us.
Our guides showed us so many things that we would never have been able to see without them. The big African mammals were great and we were lucky to see cheetahs and a leopard and honey badgers and all the big five, but I very much loved seeing the incredible diversity of bird species (I recorded over 100 African birds with the help of Brian, Ngande and others), and plants. I am a biologist by background, so this was like a dream field trip for me. Bryan and Ngande were expert birders and I think had fun finding new or less common birds in addition to the typical African critters. The birds were so beautiful and I think even my travel mates turned into birders on the trip. I also very much appreciated the different landscapes we travelled through on our trip, from wide open desert and savannah to the huge Okavango delta and the Chobe and Zambezi rivers.
Brian was a great cook; the food was healthy and amazing and Brian even planned a special treat for us on Mother’s day (basically for me). Brian was also a great guide and I was very interested to learn about the training, education and qualifications for guides in Africa. Ngande was a great driver and got us out of a number of tight spots in sand or with elephants on the road (or both), where most others would have gotten stuck. Ngande was also clearly very familiar with the areas we visited and was able to find wildlife almost the moment we left camp. Both Ngande and Brian were expert at identifying a huge range of wildlife and plants. I was clear to me that safety was top priority in every situation and even though we were able to get close to lots of wildlife, I never felt unsafe thanks to Bryan and Ngande; their collective experience in how to best handle the range of situations we encountered was very appreciated and we fully trusted their judgement.
Stories around the campfire at night was a great way to learn about life and cultures between continents and added so much to our experience. By the end of our tour, I felt like family with our guides and I have to admit that we were sad to part ways at the end of the trip. I plan to be in Africa again and would certainly consider another Sunway tour. Thanks so much for making this experience possible”

For both of us, group touring was a new experience and we were a bit doubtful to begin with about something like this. Brian and Wouter were simply amazing! They made everyone feel comfortable from the moment we left Johannesburg. Their knowledge is simply unreal!!!! I cannot speak highly enough of these two guides. Honestly, it made the tour for all of us. Africa as a destination delivers already on its own but I don’t think the tour would have been half as good without these two personalities. Such fun guys to be around and the cooking skills…haha what a delight! Nothing was ever a problem, nothing too much for them. As Brian always said “this is not a holiday but an adventure” and boy was he right….we will keep these wonderful memories forever. I am more than happy to write feedback for the guides online if you could let me know how I could that. I am sure all of the group would like to do the same. As you know, we were so worried about our flight out from JNB on the same day as the tour finished and even with our truck having broken down at the Botswana-South African border, the guys managed to get us there on time. 5 Star Service throughout – honestly am so happy with everything.

CAPE TOWN TO VIC FALLS: ”My husband and I have just returned from our Southern Africa trip which we booked through KE Adventure here in the UK. I wanted to write to tell you how pleased we were with the trip and how happy we were with our excellent guides Brian Zunza and Norman Zivengwa. We found both guides to be very good company ,knowledgeable, efficient, safety conscious and good cooks into the mix. The trip ran very smoothly and they were consistently considerate whilst at all times being professional and conscious of the time considerations of a long journey and the need for planning ahead. With it being a small group with willing participants in our fellow clients, everything ran as smoothly as possible. The vehicle which we all got to call 'the red elephant' was well up to the task and was maintained well, and driven very well indeed. The accommodation was always of a satisfactory to often very good standard and I never felt uncomfortable or worried about hygiene. My husband and I were very well throughout the trip. The only aspect of the trip which we commented on between ourselves was that we would normally have been more physically active on holiday, but recognise that with the long distances to cover most days the time in the vehicle was inevitable.
