There are few wildlife experiences in the world like a week spent in the Botswanan wilderness. This classic itinerary offers a lodge and luxury camping combination safari. The lodges are beautiful, comfortable & make for a great adventure safari though the world famous parks.
Day 1 MAUN [lodge - - -]
This safari starts at the hotel in Maun where we have an evening meal at a local restaurant (own expense).
Day 2 – 3 OKAVANGO DELTA [lodge B - -]
The Okavango Delta is an extraordinary wilderness environment that needs no introduction. A vast wetland paradise in the center of the Kalahari Desert, fed by rivers from Angolan highlands and seasonal rains. It is an ever changing kaleidoscope of waterways, reed beds, islands and dry land that grows and shrinks each season like a living creature itself, supporting a breathtaking range of wildlife. Hippos, elephants, lions and buffalo, the shy Sitatunga antelope and the abundant birdlife – a truly amazing wildlife experience. We drive around the Okavango through small villages, skirting the extremes of the flood to Etsha, where we follow thick sands tracks into the Okavango Delta panhandle. Your room overlooks a beautiful lagoon and you’ll enjoy a morning mokoro excursion and a sunset motorboat cruise.
Day 4 - 5 MOREMI / MABABE[serviced camp – meru tents BLD]
Moremi Game Reserve is the jewel of Botswana and arguably one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in Africa. Moremi’s wide variety of habitats makes it a birdwatchers paradise. Surrounding Moremi is a vast wilderness consisting of open grasslands and forest and abundant wildlife and our camp is set on a concession bordering the east of the reserve. Our days are spent on open 4WD game drives in Moremi GR and on the wildlife concession along the Mababe River watching the abundant wildlife including elephant, hippo, buffalo, lion & other game, both in Moremi Game Reserve and in the private concession reserves adjoining the park.
Day 6 – 7 SAVUTI [serviced camp – meru tents BLD]
We head north from Moremi to the renowned Savuti section of the Chobe National Park. This is an excellent area for big predators with frequent sightings of lion and leopard, elephant and plains game. We spend our time on game drives through the dramatic open plains dotted with Acacia, and along the Savuti channel where we hope to see the lions and hyenas that make Savuti an outstanding wildlife destination. We overnight in our serviced tented camp. After dinner in our dining tent, fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush.
Day 8 – 9 CHOBE NATIONAL PARK [lodge B - -]
Our next destination is Chobe National Park. We depart Savuti and head north through the remote wilderness of Botswana to the small town of Kasane and our lodge on the banks of the Chobe River. The following day we explore the national park on a morning game drive and spend the rest of the day on the river, enjoying lunch on our cruise boat with spectacular wildlife viewing. This is possibly the most satisfying and relaxing game viewing activity in Southern Africa. We get close to the herds of elephants, and have amazing sightings of crocodile, hippo, fish eagle and many more. As the sun sets we head out of the park with some amazing wildlife and sunset photographs.
Day 10 VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE [lodge B - -]
We leave Botswana behind and cross into Zimbabwe and make our way to Victoria Falls. The mighty Zambezi River thunders 100m over the gorge creating a magnificent spectacle. The spray from the waterfall sustains a rainforest surrounding the falls which is abundant with birdlife and protected in a National Park. We explore the Victoria Falls on foot with a local guide bringing the Falls to life with tales of the explorers of these ancient lands.
Day 11 VICTORIA FALLS - TOUR ENDS [- B - -]

Botswana is centrally located in Southern Africa and has a sub-tropical climate. Largely Kalahari Desert, there are sizeable differences between the day and night temperatures and being a semi-desert environment, very limited rainfall. In the Delta temperatures are more moderate due to the abundance of water.
The Okavango Delta provides a lifeline of water in the desert as the summer rains fall in Angola and take 6 months to arrive in the Okavango. Thus the Okavango Delta is actually expanding as the surrounding desert dries out through winter. This phenomenon creates an incredible wildlife spectacle all year round.
Dry season is from May to October: The game viewing is superb and wildlife is very easy to spot.
May:- Autumn temperatures are typically 10°C/50°F to 28°C/80°F.
June, July & August:- Winter morning game drives can be cold at around 6°C/42°F, but it warms to +-25°C/78°F, so dress in layers with a windproof jacket and beanie.
September & October:- Spring begins and temperatures warm up to +- 34°C/100°F. October is the hottest month in Botswana and the migration of the Southern Carmine Bee-eaters is a sight to behold and a must-see for this time of year.
Green season is from November to April: The intermittent rains bring much needed relief to the bushveld, many antelope have their young, and the world around you is brimming with new life. The rains also settle the dust, and the sunlight provides gorgeous photographic opportunities.
November & December:- As the clouds build up this time is typically cooler than October at between 20°C/69°F and 33°C/91°F but there can still be some very hot days. After the first rains the roads can become muddy in places!
January & February:- The Summer or "Green" months, have occasional spectacular thunderstorms in the afternoons. Temperatures are around 32°C/90°F at midday.
March and April:- The waters of the Okavango Delta start to rise and large herds of elephant and buffalo begin to make their way back to the Okavango as winter approaches. Lovely, clear weather and few clouds prevail, but the nights are cooler and the days very comfortable at around 30°C/87°F.
Dear Ladies and Gentleman! I want to give you another Feedback about our trip The Botswana Baobabs BPac09. It was wonderful! A great point of this experience was due to Edwin, our excellent local guide!!! Thank you very, very much! He was so caring for everybody’s needs (please drink enough, we don´t want you to dehydrate, does anybody need more blankets, don´t forget your Malaria prophylaxis...... and so on). Having so much knowledge about culture, economics, political issues, fauna and flora, and so much respect for everybody with a lot of humour, all these things made him to "the best guide on earth". Edwin is one very important point that this trip was an unforgettable experience! Thanks a lot!
Good morning Bruce & the Sunway Team,
Today I would like to give you a little report on the Safari I did together with my clients. WE HAD A GREAT TIME, THE BEST SAFARI EVER! Both our Guides, Wouter and Moses have been very much caring for the group and 100% trustful.I shouldn't forget to mention the pooler who took us into the Delta, this were 5 young men and they have been great. Jason was leading the team. For the first time I saw a lot of animals on the walk in the Delta, and Jason explained so many things to us on. Beside this, on the last evening, the pooler team have been dancing for us. We have been very lucky to see so many animals, big and small, 2 times a Leopard, 2 times Lions, 2 times wild dogs, uncountable Elephants and so on. As Wouter is a bird watcher he showed us also many beautiful birds.Beside this he is a very, very pleasant person and also he cooks very well. Also Moses the driver, he has a great knowledge of the animals and the country. Both of them explained many things to us, it was a most pleasant experience. As always, we all enjoyed Hyena Pan, a beautiful place to be and very friendly staff. Lister and his team in Savuti, also they did a great job. We didn't miss anything at all. It was great and we all enjoyed it very much. Thank you and your team for planning and organising.
Where to start….. what a wonderful tour!! The sheer number and variety of wildlife we saw, and the in-depth knowledge shared by Moses and Wayne, our guides, ensured we were not left wanting. Their easy demeanour allowed us all to have a fun- filled interactive experience and we learned a lot about the animals and surrounding environment as a result. Each place had its different landscapes, from arid treeless expanses to heavily wooded shrubland, with vast horizons and amazing skies aplenty. We would fully recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience Botswana’s wildlife and ecosystems at their best. The Sunway Safari staff were outstanding and the hospitality shown was greatly appreciated. From an amazing breakfast selection right through to the 3 course dinners every evening – were spoilt for choice. We’ve attached a couple of our favourite photos – still too many to go through at this stage – but hope you like them. A reminder for this time of year is that layering of clothing is a must – mornings are brisk in the open-sided vehicles and evenings are very cool, however, the daytime temperatures were lovely. A great touch that the vehicle provided rugs for the cooler mornings. Already planning for our next safari….
