Yvonne our french guide from Zimbabwe shares on her experience in Etosha on the CWa13 Cape to Windhoek …
Oh wow wow wow!!
Black rhino and a lion pride at a waterhole – what a sighting. So we were on the Full Day Game Drive in Etosha National Park, one of the few mornings we had to wake-up at the crack of dawn… joking, not at the crack of dawn but pretty early. We have a quick breakfast and were on our way to the park by 06h00 because the plan was to be the first ones at the park’s gate when it opened at 0645….yes, as planned we made it (yippee) we were first.
So the gate opened and we drove into the park….had a great day’s sightings of elephant, giraffe, lions, zebras you name it but the best was saved for last. On our way out of the park, we drove past one last waterhole and lo and behold what did we find. A family of about 5 lionesses, one lion and two cubs. The pride seemed to be feeding on a recent kill and were likely to be there for a few days. The family was lying the left side of the waterhole and on the right side of the waterhole was …. Wait for it….a BLACK RHINO.
This was great, everyone was up in arms as in oh my word!! The photos were great, a lion family and a black rhino sharing a waterhole and at one point the Black Rhino turned around and marked its territory with a urine squirt towards the waterhole and the lion’s response seemed as if they turned their heads away from the squirt…at the same time the sun was setting so the lighting was just perfect.
Etosha National Park delivered once again…….
