Chris after finishing his South Africa Rainbow Route did a follow on tour being the Cape to Vic Falls CVa21 which leaves from Cape Town and ends in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. He had an experience that most guides will have when travelling North along the A33 in Botswana from Nata to Kasane.

We were on our way from Nata Lodge to Kasane. It was in the morning and already the sun was warmer than what is usually is. The road runs through some wildlife areas being the Sibuyu Forest Reserve and the Kasane Forest Reserve and on occasions depending on your luck, sightings  might even be better than in game parks. The road is full of elephants and other animals like zebras, kudus, warthogs and if you really lucky buffalo, we also  saw several birds on-route like Yellow billed kites and Brown snake eagles hunting up and down the road picking up dead lizards and many others that come out after the rain.

We came to a place which has been excavated when the road was under construction not to long ago and it has become a water hole where almost a hundred elephants congregated having a mid day morning drink. It was not easy for all the elephants as this artificial water hole is small and they were shoving and pushing each other out of the way so they could drink. This was a mixed heard with young who are always interesting to watch and see how funny they can behave in the comfort of  their mothers and big bulls around them. In the water hole were two big bulls who were wallowing and making the water dirty for the others who still had to drink.

Eventually when these two giants got up and left the waterhole, loads of elephants came closer  to drink. Most interesting was the youngsters mock charging each other and playing with each other just like little children. As we left to continue with our journey, we saw some other animals in the back round waiting for the elephants to depart so they could come for a drink in peace.
