Zandre having just returned from his first LM22 Trade Route had this to share... This is a wonderful tour stretching over 5000 kilometers trough the South Eastern Parts of Africa. This tour is surely not for the faint hearted but instead for the adventurer. There is canoeing on the lower Zambezi, snorkeling in the Lake Malawi and experiencing true wild nature on foot in the infamous South Luangwa National Park.
We had a nice and chilling start in Livingstone just to remind us that Africa has winter as well, but none the less we made it with some good coffee and a beautiful sunrise.
We set off on our journey towards the Kafue river just 6Km West of the mighty Zambezi. On the river we had the fortunate experiences of seeing elephant, hippo, crocodiles and some good bird life. An unforgettable experience to be so close to these amazing creatures.
With some long driving days to get to our beautiful destinations we had to make things fun, stopping for ‘bushy bushy’ or slowing down for people and animals on the road there was always a smile and signs that the journey is enjoyed.
Arriving at Lake Malawi it would at first seem that we have arrived at the sea, with a beautiful beach and blue water but in fact not, it is all fresh water.
Our day out on the lake was spent snorkeling and swimming around the little island, also sunbathing like seals on one boulder and it was very fun jumping from them into the water.
In The South Luangwa National Park we had some of the most memorable game drives and very well interpreted bush walks.
On the safari Jeep in the morning, a leopard chasing a scrub hare for breakfast and being disturbed by some wild dogs hunting an impala. The leopard scrambled up the closest tree and watched as the dogs enjoyed a full impala. But the leopard being hungry jumped down and in a flash stole a loose draw of meat just to fill a small hole in his stomach.
This is an experience that I personally think would barely exist in any archive or documentary other than this day. A leopard attempted hunt, and a successful wild dog hunt all in the reach of a good crowd and good camera footage.
To make things even more exciting later on that drive we have found lions that where mating. A great experience indeed.
Our long hours spent to get to the destinations all paid off in the end with great memories to take home and great photos from 4 beautiful countries in just 22 days. Africa and its Beauty never seems to disappoint no matter how hot or how cold it can be there will always be a warm heart around every corner.
