Zandre just returned from Sunways NZe13 Expedition which visits the North and South Luangwa National Parks in Northern Zambia and had the following to share.. South Luangwa National Park and North Luangwa National park are 2 of the greatest parks in Zambia I would say. Bringing you some of the best game viewing and wildlife opportunities that you can ever imagine.
South Luangwa to be one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in the world, and not without reason.
The concentration of animals around the Luangwa River, and its oxbow lagoons, is among the most intense in Africa. The Luangwa River is the most intact major river system in Africa and is the life-blood of this 9059 km² Park. The now famous ‘walking safari’ originated in this Park and is still one of the finest ways to experience Africa’s pristine wilderness first-hand. It has a good reputation for a high concentration of predators in the given area and that does not disappoint at all. If 8 Leopards, 10 Lions including 1 on foot (can you believe that) does not make your heart skip a beat I do not know what will. Staying at the Well-known Wildlife camp that borders the National Park an experience of Hippos and Elephant can be found with Hyena and Lion calls through the night.
None the less Wildlife camp also comes with a big amount of primates, a little bit annoying I would say. They are very naughty and special care has to be taken. They will sneak up from behind and as soon as your attention slips you lose your bread or your vegetable stock, but nothing a good old unloaded slingshot to chase them can’t fix.
North Luangwa National Park is a remote tract of land, covering 4636 km², it offers one of the finest wilderness experiences in Zambia, if not Africa itself.
It is not open to the public and there are no permanent lodges there. Access is with one of the few safari operators granted permission to conduct walking safaris.
The beauty of visiting this Park is the truly remarkable opportunities to experience Africa as it was. It is wild and untouched and you are simply an unobtrusive witness to its natural beauty and drama. Now this is a wild place. Oh yes you need a proper 4 wheel drive vehicle for this. Driving from South Luangwa to North Luangwa there are no tar roads and the whole route is bumpy off-roading. If you are a walking safari person that enjoy the nature like this then the areas around the North Luangwa area is good for this. The Park inside has a small issue of tsetse flies but fortunately enough do not carry any disease. A great peaceful area where solitude can be found.
A great tour full of exiting moments of the beaten track peacefully in warm Zambia.
