Jacque's just returned for a Mozambique & Kruger Beach & Bush MOa14 and had the following to share from his trip. Mozambique is a wonderful place with friendly people and plenty of seafood fresh from the Indian Ocean.
Day one was a long day traveling from Johannesburg to Hluhluwe. When we arrived at our destination we were all welcomed by the staff at Zulu Land Lodge as if we have been there many times before. We had time to go to the tents and relax before an amazing dinner prepared by the chef.
Early the next day we went for a game drive in Mkuze Game Reserve and saw some amazing animals like Rhino and Elephant. After a lunch on the road we headed back to the Lodge where we enjoyed a lovely afternoon bushwalk down to the river and saw Nyala, Duiker, Zebra and Impala. We also saw a lot of birds like Yellow Billed Kite, White Herron, Open Billed Stork and Cormorants.
Next after 3 wonderful nights at Zululand Lodge we headed to Kozi Bay for the next 2 nights. With a full day down at the beach we explored the shallow reefs, did some kayaking and visited with a local fisherman the traditional fish traps found in the estuary.
Going in to Mozambique was nice and easy with almost no delays at the border post. As we started moving towards Maputo it was a wonderful day for driving through the local villages and seeing the colourful fresh fruit and vegetables for sale grown by the local people. The accommodation was phenomenal, the room had a terrace overlooking the ocean and the skyline of Maputo glowing in the darkness.
The following day knowing it was a long day to Inhambane we left nice and early after breakfast so we could get there early afternoon. Yet again we were welcomed with open arms at the accommodation. We settled into the rooms and then had a great fish dinner with a good night’s rest. The next day was a free day for clients to do local activities visiting the local villages, eating lovely local food like Coconut bread and Pow bread which is freshly baked the morning you visit the locals.
Leaving Mozambique behind us we traveled through the Limpopo Trans-frontier park into the mighty Kruger National Park we were welcomed by a big herd of Elephant on the way to our camp. Clients have an option to do a night game drive in search of the nocturnal animals like the Genet, African Wild Cat, Aardvark, Pangolin, Lion and Leopard. On the last day of the tour we did a game drive out of Kruger and were very privileged to have a Lion, Hyena and Leopard cub with his mother by his side come say goodbye as we where leaving the park.
It’s never nice to say goodbye to a group of strangers that become friends but, as I always say, all good things has to come to an end.
