The best of Southern Africa.

Norman 1 smallNorman returned from a Zimbabwe Botswana ZBa16 and had this blog to share.

The onset of the rain season always brings the best of Africa, different shades of green and tan colours are witnessed on the once dead like trees.

That’s the beauty of spring in southern Africa.

As the rains had but just began, there was still very little vegetation cover in the parks save for the shooting mopane trees that dominate most of our national parks. Kruger, being in a predominantly mopane bushveld, was the best to see the abundancy of wildlife it carries. Hwange which sits on the fringes of the Kalahari Desert had a wonderful cover of the mighty Zambezi teak. Our stay at Hwange Safari Lodge was dominated by a constant steam of wildlife to the waterhole just a few meters behind the hotel. As the shadows grew longer there came a family of the world’s fastest animal to quench its thirst at the water as most of the natural water hole had dried up due to the heat. The site was just too good for our wonderful guesst who had spent the day looking for the animals in the Hwange National Park.
Victoria Falls, which at this time of year is at its lowest flow, gives us the opportunity to see the formation of the gorges, was just another place to marvel.

Situated almost at the half way point between the source and the mouth of the Zambezi River is the great Okavango Delta, it’s one of the places that is on every visitors list.  It's the world’s largest inland delta with all its termite mounds and large herds of antelopes and elephants.

It is a marvel to watch as the water from the Okavango River tries, as much as possible, to tame and quench the thirst of the mighty Kalahari Desert.
