After many years of touring with Sunway Safaris as a German guide I (Dirk) left the road to move into the marketing department. Now as the marketing manager the touring I do get to do is by plane to the EU. On my last trip I had 2 firsts, being Southern France and Italy.

Arriving in Paris after a very long flight via Dubia I went straight to the train station and bought myself a ticket to Marseille.

Arriving just after 9, I was met at the train station by our French agent and went through to his house for an amazing dinner and meeting. Early the next morning it was back on a train along the coast for a short while and then straight to Switzerland for an afternoon meeting in Nyon.

The next few days were spent in Switzerland with plenty meetings to attend and lots of train, tram and bus rides to get me around. After a weekend in Zurich, spending time with old friends, it was time for Italy.

Over the next week I went from Zurich to Verona, Treviso, Rome (for 10 hours), Florence and ending off in Milan. What an amazing 6 days around Italy. I think the highlight of the trip would have been travelling in the newly launched Frecciarossa 1000 from Rome to Florence and Florence to Milan. This is the flagship train of the Italian railways. Now this train operationally does an average of 300km/h, but can do as much as 400km/h! I can tell you the landscape passes by rather rapidly when you doing 300km/h.
