My name is Doug Neary and I have been working for Sunway Safaris for 5 years. I have been involved in as much as I can but the bulk of what I have done is look after the group of guides, this entails many things but the main parts are making sure we have guides to run the tours and that these guides are of high quality and giving our clients the best possible trips.
Sunway Safaris has a fantastic mix of guides from all over Southern Africa, with different cultures and backgrounds and this makes for really interesting interactions and stories.
One highlight has always been guides training, where we take new guides and guides who have been with Sunway for a while and go away to gain practise and knowledge from each other in order to improve and be better guides. We normally cover a multitude of things relating to everything one might encounter on a tour with clients.
I can clearly remember first seeing Sir David Attenborough when I was very young on a nature program on the TV talking about the Okavango Delta, I was hooked on the natural from that point on and especially knew the Okavango Delta was on the top of my list of places to experience.
Fast forward some years to 2016 and with Sunway Safaris I have seen and experienced all these places I always wanted to see. I have been very lucky to go to Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique and Germany over the years.
There are many highlights to choose from but some of my top ones have been seeing Victoria Falls from Zimbabwe and Livingstone sides, the landscape in Namibia but mostly the dunes of Sossusvlei and Spitzkoppe. The Chobe boat cruise and of course the Okavango Delta!
