WOUTER VAN SPIJKER

My name is Wouter van Spijker, I’m 25 years old and I’m from “Alphen aan den Rijn” in the Netherlands. I was born and raised in The Netherlands, in a typically Dutch environment and I’ve lived there until I was 23, so me being a guide for Sunway Safari’s and travelling Southern Africa for a living sometimes still makes me feel like I’m living in my own dream.

I’ve always been interested in everything about Africa; the people, the many different cultures and languages, and of course her beautiful nature and wildlife. So the job I’m having now really is a dream job, I’m loving it! I only visited South Africa for the first time in 2012, after having finished my bachelor in Environmental sciences. I took part in a three-month field guide training course, which I absolutely loved. I had the best time of my life doing this course.

Most people have a culture shock when they visit a new and exotic country, but I felt like having one when I got back to my own country! I missed Africa so much, and I just got qualified as a field guide, so I decided to give it a try and fly back to South Africa. Since I’ve arrived in South Africa in 2013, I’ve worked in a 4 star lodge in KwaZulu Natal, I’ve worked with students and volunteers in the Kruger Park, and now I’m happily working as a guide for Sunway Safaris.

I really enjoy working for Sunway Safari’s. The places and countries we visit are amazing and will never bore me, the amount of rare and endangered animals we see are unbelievable and working with people and making their holiday special is really rewarding to me. 

BOTSWANA WILD PARKS: " First time and very recommandable. Just back from an unforgettable Sunway Safaris Tour to Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls with German speaking, perfect guide Wouter („as almost a part of the group“, always available and left no questions open) Driver William also a very experienced, carefully driver. Because both of them, we have discoverd the „Big Five“ at the first days already.

Our „Red Elephant“ (Safari Chariot) was perfect suited for all "challenges". Thanks for the great time, will recommand to others !

PRIVATE BOTSWANA BAOBABS BPac09: "Good morning Bruce & the Sunway Team, Today I would like to give you a little report on the Safari I did together with my clients.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME, the best Safari ever! Thank you and your team for planning and organising. Both our Guides, Wouter and Moses have been very much caring for the group and 100% trustful.I shouldn't forget to mention the pooler who took us into the Delta, this were 5 young men and they have been great. Jason was leading the team. For the first time I saw a lot of animals on the walk in the Delta, and Jason explained so many things to us on. Beside this, on the last evening, the pooler team have been dancing for us. We have been very lucky to see so many animals, big and small, 2 times a Leopard, 2 times Lions, 2 times wild dogs, uncountable Elephants and so on. As Wouter is a bird watcher he showed us also many beautiful birds.Beside this he is a very, very pleasant person and also he cooks very well.

Also Moses the driver, he has a great knowledge of the animals and the country. Both of them explained many things to us, it was a most pleasant experience. It was great and we all enjoyed it very much.

ZIMBABWE BOTSWANA GAME TRACKER: "Dear Sunway team, I would like to take a moment to send through some feedback (in addition to our form we left with the guides) for our recent Game Tracker Tour which finished on Sunday! We had the best trip EVER. For both of us, group touring was a new experience and we were a bit doubtful to begin with about something like this. Brian and Wouter were simply amazing! They made everyone feel comfortable from the moment we left Johannesburg. Their knowledge is simply unreal!!!! I cannot speak highly enough of these two guides. Honestly, it made the tour for all of us. Africa as a destination delivers already on its own but I don’t think the tour would have been half as good without these two personalities. Such fun guys to be around and the cooking skills…haha what a delight! Nothing was ever a problem, nothing too much for them. As Brian always said “this is not a holiday but an adventure” and boy was he right….we will keep these wonderful memories forever. I am more than happy to write feedback for the guides online if you could let me know how I could that. I am sure all of the group would like to do the same. As you know, we were so worried about our flight out from JNB on the same day as the tour finished and even with our truck having broken down at the Botswana-South African border, the guys managed to get us there on time. 5 Star Service throughout – honestly am so happy with everything. Once again, big thank you to Sunway Safaris and your entire team.
