A Leopard in a tree eating impala, a leopard sitting on the log on the road side, two lions on the savannah and hundreds of buffalos in the Botswana game parks.
I (Wayne) just returned from the Botswana Wild side BT14 camping tour that visits the Moremi game reserve Savuti and Chobe national parks in Botswana.
This time of the year we have our precious rain in Southern Africa. We had some rains on our adventure which did not stop us seeing great game, happy animals around every corner. The grass and the trees are so green which makes photos look great. Upon entering Moremi south gate we saw some wild dogs tracks on the road which we followed for a little while but they disappeared into a direction opposite to which we were heading so we carried on in hope we would find these amazing dogs later in the tour. On the second day in Moremi on our morning drive we followed some Lion tracks until we found them 30mins later.
Lots of photos were taken by all as the lions plodded along in no real direction at all. The safari continued as we drove on for a few kilometres someone from the back hinted us to stop, Leopard in the tree! Wow a beautiful male up in a tree feeding on the impala just a few meters from the road and we were the only car in the area. We sat there for about 40min watching this beautiful cat consume his morning breakfast. After having seen 2 of the big cats both being members of the Big 5 we headed to camp for a well deserved brunch and spend time talking about what a great morning we had.
On the afternoon game drive we within 10mins after leaving the camp we saw anther leopard sleeping on the log, wow who says that you can’t see cats in the rain season in Africa?
Chobe was great we saw no cats but lots of very happy animals like buffalo, impala, zebra, puku, sable and some massive crocodiles on the boat cruise and lots of birds. This is a great time of the year for bird lovers as the migrants are all visiting Southern Africa to breed.
We saw various species like African Skimmers, Fish Eagle, Marabou storks, Jacana's, Kingfishers and many more.
Come rain, come sun, Africa is full of surprises around every corner.
