On yet another journey of Explorers myself (Victor) and Iton had 11 adventurers to join us on our route from Cape Town to Victoria Falls Grand Explorer CVa21. Starting with the cape Peninsula, through the majestic Namibia off to the immaculate Okavango Delta and concluding the journeyin Victoria Falls. For most our adventurers it was an open mind the whole way and many good things that made great memories.
After many years of touring with Sunway Safaris as a German guide I (Dirk) left the road to move into the marketing department. Now as the marketing manager the touring I do get to do is by plane to the EU. On my last trip I had 2 firsts, being Southern France and Italy.
On my first trip as a guide with Sunway Safaris my colleague Clinton and I (Nicole) took a small group being a family of 4 on the " Mozambique & Kruger Beach & Bush MOa14”. It was a first-time trip for all of us. For the family it was the first time in Southern Africa and for the two of us guides it was our first trip as a team.
We left Johannesburg early on a chilly winter morning and headed towards the rolling, green hills of Zululand in the eastern part of South Africa. The first three days we stayed at Zululand lodge, close to the well-known Hluhluhwe-iMfolozi Park, which is - with its tastefully decorated and comfortable safari tents - a beautiful, hidden gem and a perfect place to unwind in the bush.
People warned me that kids grow up fast, and they were right. My oldest son George is now 15, with a girlfriend and an electric guitar, and my youngest son Dylan is about to hit 13. So last autumn 2017, when my husband Steve and I were planning a summer break, it suddenly felt like we were running out of time. Perhaps we ought to make the summer of 2018 one to remember. The boys were still young enough to travel with us, but old enough to appreciate an adventure – the perfect time to pull out all the stops.
We decided to go to Botswana, on the BT14 Wild Side camping safari with Sunway Safaris. It’s not a family safari, designed for young kids, it’s a proper, authentic, get-stuck-in safari and, with the minimum age 12, it was a fit for us. We briefed the kids – there will be no Wifi in the bush, you’ll need to muck in, there will be some long journeys. They were fine with that. What we couldn’t brief them for was just how mind blowing being in Botswana would be.
