Jacque having done a few tours now for Sunway Safaris just returned from a back to back tour series and had the following to write… I have just returned from a very exciting and fun trip in Botswana being the Botswana Wild Parks BTa14. On day number five the group leaves the Okavango Delta and heads to the Moremi Game Reserve bordering the mighty Chobe National Park. The Moremi Game reserve is the first reserve in Africa that was established by local residents. Concerned about the rapid depletion of wildlife in their ancestral lands due to uncontrolled hunting and cattle encroachment the Batawana people of Ngamiland, under the leadership of the deceased Chief Moremi III’s wife, Mrs. Moremi, took the bold initiative to proclaim Moremi a game reserve in 1963. This National Park has received a number of important distinctions the most prestige’s being in 2008 when it was voted the “Best game reserve in Africa” by the prestigious African Travel and Tourism Association at South Africa’s premier tourism fair, Indaba held in Durban every year.
Having traveled on our Namibia Botswana Southern Circle NBa21 in 2015 Richard Stansfield from the UK a keen birder sent us an email to let us know how the tour went. During the tour he was very successful in seeing 226 bird species in 21 days!!
Stefanie one of our German guides from Switzerland has the following to share from her recent Zimbabwe Botswana Game Tracker ZBag16 tour... Most of the time in the bush, game is seen either from a vehicle or on foot. If you are adventurous and got a bit of money you can also see game from a helicopter or small airplane. Or you opt for a boat cruise on the Chobe River!
The Chobe River rises in the central plateau of Angola on the slopes of Mount Tembo. There the river is called the Cuando (Kwando). It flows southeast along the Zambian border and once reaching the Caprivi Strip it turns sharply east and forms the southern border of Namibia to Botswana. In the dry season there are a few open channels through the swamps and marshes in that area and from this point on the river is known as the Linyanti. After passing the seasonal lake Liambezi, the river is known as the Chobe. Above the Kazangula ferry, where the four countries Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia meet, the Chobe flows into the Zambezi. The Cuando has a total length of 1500 kilometres during which it changes its name from Cuando (Kwando) to Linyanti and finally to Chobe while still being the same river.
Greg just returned from the Zimababwe Botswana Game Tracker ZBa16 and had a great time in Khama Rhino Sanctuary with sightings of White Rhino and great general game. He had the following to say about Khama. On our Zimbabwe Botswana tours as well as our Botswana tours, one night takes us for a stopover at the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, situated near the small village of Serowe in Botswana, which is the home of the current president Ian Khama and the first president, his father Sir Seretse Khama. This sanctuary is a community based wildlife project, established in 1992 to assist in saving the vanishing rhino population, as well as to re-habilitate an area that was formally teaming with wildlife.
