Unbelievable!

Sunway Etosha Lions StephanieOn a recent NB21 Desert & Delta tour, Stephanie had the sighting of her dreams..

As guides we are privileged to spend many hours in the bush throughout the year. Different seasons, different areas, different sightings … One could think that as an experienced guide we have seen it all, but there is a first time for everything. For me specifically I still haven’t seen the birth of an animal in the wild (I was late by minutes for springbok and buffalo), I have yet to see leopards mating (had them mating next to our car completely hidden in a bush) or a crocodile make a kill! Well there are many more things but these just came on top of my head thinking about sightings that I hope to see one day …

This recent tour though gave me the number one on my list! A successful kill by lions. Yes, I just gave it away but how it happened and how much patience it took to see it go through, only the clients, Lloyd my colleague and I know!

Seeing Spots

Sunway South Africa Kruger cheetah 2 Bruce Taylor smallOn a recent CVa21 Grand Explorer tour, Carina was rewarded handsomely for her patience in Ethosa... Everyone wants to see cats when they are on a game drive, but people don’t realise that they are not the easiest animals to find.  On our trip in Etosha we were surprised by not only 1, but 4 of these feline friends of ours.

We arrived in Etosha National Park for an afternoon game drive and within 5 minutes we spotted 2 elephants at a waterhole. We decided to drive on a little gravel loop back to the main road.  Just before we reached the tar road we saw another vehicle standing next to the road.

Whale Watching

Sunway South Africa Hermanus Bruce Taylor smallOn a recent SAa17 Rainbow Route tour, Patrick and Cloud's group had a very memorable experience with whales in Hermanus...

The Southern Right Whale is one of our visitors, that moves along the South African east coast se between June and November. Obviously the Southern Right Whale isn’t good in keeping time(how could they, they don’t wear watches), so they can come anytime from June or even only start arriving in mid-July or so. My group was in luck...

Gentle Giants of the Drakensberg

Lotheni River SmallOn the SAa17 Rainbow Route tour, Adolf and Cloud did a hike in the Drakensberg Mountains at Lower Lotheni... It is a day where we don't have to do any driving, and can enjoy a peaceful day outside in nature. I elected to take this group on the Eagle Trail. This trail takes one on a path next to the Lotheni River; this is one of the many rivers that are formed in the sloping hills of the Drakensberg. The name Drakensberg means mountains in the shape of a dragons back. This imposing mountain range forms part of the border between South Africa and Lesotho. It is known to be one of the most beautiful places in South Africa for the nature lover. It is green most of the year, blooming with wild flowers, including our national flower, the King Protea.
